The majority of the pyrolysis kinetics models presented in the literature is nonlinear. In these models, the influence of temperature is normally described by the Arrhenius equation. In some studies related to parameter estimation of nonlinear models suggestions can be found for reparameterization of the Arrhenius-type equation due to inadequate results on the parameter estimation. In this work, kinetic modeling is proposed in order to predict the primary biomass decomposition behavior under a dynamic regime. This model is based on the traditional model of parallel reactions and uses the Arrhenius-type equation in the reparameterized form. Some nonlinearity measures are used as a tool to correctly estimate the kinetic parameters of the pyrolysis of sugarcane bagasse. The predictions from the proposed model properly reproduced the experimental DTG curves. The reparametrized model showed non-significance for bias and nonlinearity measures.

Thermal degradation, reactivity and kinetics for biomass materials cotton stalk (CS), sugarcane bagasse 1 (SB1), sugarcane bagasse 2 (SB2) and shea meal (SM) have been evaluated under pyrolysis (N2) and oxidising (dry air) conditions, using a non-isothermal thermogravimetric method (TGA). In the cases of CS and SB1 the peak temperatures were 51 ° C higher for pyrolysis compared with oxidative degradation, whereas for SB2 and SM the difference was ∼38 ° C. However, the differences in the rates of weight loss were significantly higher under oxidising conditions for all the materials studied. Maximum rate of weight loss (% s−1) under pyrolysis conditions ranged from 0.10 to 0.18 whereas these values accelerated to the range of 0.19–0.28 under oxidising conditions, corresponding to respective peak temperatures.

氣化技術的應用在 20 世紀初有相當不錯的發展,但不敵石油工業的興起而逐漸衰退,因此在 1950 年代被稱為「被遺忘的技術」。氣化技術的再次興起是在 1970 年代之後,由於能源危機,使得煤炭氣化再度受到重視。而在同時,因歐洲伐木等事業帶來環境的問題,使得氣化技術開始利用木屑等生質物做為氣化原料,開啟了生質物氣化技術的發展,更大量應用在能源較缺乏的發展中國家。歷經近 30 年的發展,現今生質物氣化技術已是極具潛力的替代能源技術,可同時解決環境汙染和能源短缺的問題。

2.2 Heat treatments
Thermal pre-treatment - With this technique, a portion of hemicellulose is hydrolysed and forms acids, which become catalysts for its further hydrolysis. When the heat treatment is performed at 160 ° C, the solubilisation of the lignin is obtained. The produced compounds are mainly phenols that, in many cases, may be inhibitors or toxic against bacteria and yeasts, especially when operating in acidic environments. It is never recommended to operate at temperatures above 250 ° C, as that could cause pyrolysis reactions.
Steam-explosion - Inside a container, the biomass is treated with steam at high temperature (over 240 ° C) and subjected to pressure (> 10 bar) for a few minutes; at the end of the pre-treatment, the pressure descends rapidly and the biomass is cooled quickly, causing the explosion of the cell membranes.
Pressure cooking – It is a treatment similar to steam explosion, but instead of the steam is used hot water. In this way, it is possible to solubilize mainly hemicellulose, in order to make the cellulose more accessible and to avoid the formation of inhibitory compounds for the anaerobic digestion process. To obtain this latter purpose, it is also recommended to maintain an acidic environment during the treatment.
