許多人認為英國料理出了名的難吃，英國也被部分人士視為「美食沙漠」，對此南安普敦市（Southampton City）的雷德布里奇社區高中（Redbridge Community School）校長有深刻體悟。他近日因為學校營養午餐太難吃，絕望向家長們道歉，直呼：「如果我知道自己的孩子在學校吃的是這種東西，我會非常生氣。」
《天空新聞》報導，這名校長名叫傑森（Jason Ashley），他12日在社群平台上致歉學生家長，寫道：「坦白說，（學校）食堂提供的餐點實在令人無法接受，如果我知道自己的孩子在學校吃的是這種東西，我會非常生氣。」並附上一系列學校膳食照，包括烤馬鈴薯、薯條等。
雷德布里奇社區高中的營養午餐，是由「查特維爾斯餐飲公司」（Chartwells）提供，該公司客戶遍及英國各地學校。傑森表示：「我們透過照片得出結論，查特維爾斯根本就不會烤馬鈴薯，份量越來越小，價格卻變貴了。我不斷問自己『烤馬鈴薯是有多難？』」
他寫道：「我希望您（家長）和我一樣憤怒和失望。對於那些用辛苦賺來的薪水支付學費的人來說，我只能深表歉意。雖然現在無論我說什麼或做什麼，都可能於事無補，但我認為您有知情的權利。」
傑森指出，學校無法決定由哪間餐飲公司承包營養午餐，也無法決定提供的餐點，因為根據南安普敦市議會，該校是透過「民間融資提案制度」（Private Finance Initiative，PFI）取得校務服務。他表示，校方已召開「多次會議」討論問題，但仍缺乏進展。
助理校長泰勒（Rich Taylor）則透露，查特維爾斯餐飲公司高層多次訪問學校，期間食品品質會突然提升，但他們離開後，又會回復到差勁狀態。他氣憤說道，約一半的學生依賴免費營養午餐：「對某些人來說，這是他們一天中唯一吃到的熱餐。」
查特維爾斯餐飲公司則發表聲明，指近幾周公司出現「運營和人力挑戰」，表示：「我們很抱歉，在這種情況下，服務水平低於我們要求的高標準。」公司強調，正採取行動改正問題，並稱儘管食材成本上漲，2年來營養午餐價格並未調漲，份量也沒改變。

Of course a society that demonises poverty will try to prosecute vulnerable, unpaid carers
The scandal, revealed by the Guardian, didn’t occur in a vacuum. The right’s casting of the poor as parasitic benefits cheats underpins it all
The unpaid carer’s allowance in this country is £81.90 a week. It’s hard to see what serious thought went into arriving at that figure – any calculation of how much it costs to live on, for instance, or how much an unpaid carer is saving the government. Being without discernible curiosity about the lives of unpaid carers, or their contribution to society, it looks very much like a benefit handed down from on high; so at the very least, you’d expect the Department for Work and Pensions to keep on top of its administration.

A commercial blood product at the centre of the biggest treatment scandal in the history of the NHS was approved for use after government officials were told convicts were among the paid donors and virus contamination “should be assumed”, corporate filings reveal.
The product, given to haemophiliacs to enable their blood to clot, was injected into thousands of patients in the UK in the 1970s and 1980s, including young children, who were infected with Aids and hepatitis C.

沒記錯的話，用個簡單且可能不精確地說法：
大概脫歐過一陣子之後，工黨就想開始分食脫歐票源，截至目前為止，主打有點像是「保守黨胡亂脫歐沒章法，但我們會有配套」這樣。
有點驚訝(?)的是，這幾年來看到不少英格蘭人表示就是要脫歐呀，甚至「脫歐是必然，只是我們政府用錯了方法」。
說到這裡，我想到以前有一篇自由時報的投書，作者是英國人，大意是：
台灣千萬不能與中國統一，不論軟硬各種形式，包括芬蘭化，各種迎合中國甚至自廢制度
話鋒一轉，突然說「就像當年我們加入歐盟真是悔不當初，本來都是英制現在得跟著用公制」。
大哥…你知道歐盟與中國本質上就不一樣嗎？

Outgoing Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross has lost to the SNP’s Seamus Logan in Aberdeenshire North and Moray East.
Logan won with 13,455 votes.
Ross stood in place of David Duguid, who was barred from standing by party chiefs due to ill health. Ross announced he would resign as party leader following the election after u-turning on his decision not to stand as an MP.

Plaid Cymru have hailed a “stunning” general election result after retaining its two incumbent MPs and gaining two others.

Despite the tough context of an unprecedented Labour wave, this is the party’s best ever result in a general election - representing the greatest proportion of seats won.
This result shows that Plaid Cymru is the clear alternative to Labour in Wales and our focus now shifts to putting forward a vision which more people than every can get behind at the Senedd Election in 2026.

英國新上場的工黨政府有官員表示，取消保守黨籍前首相莊漢生（Boris Johnson）的用字「地方升級」（levelling up），有關推動各地區平衡發展的政策改回使用較平實的字眼「地方政府」。
莊漢生提倡把英格蘭北部等發展較落後的地區「levelling up」，主管地方政策的部門也因應改名，變成「地方升級、房屋及社區部」（Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities），以回應英格蘭北部很多選區罕見地投票選出保守黨議員。
工黨上週五上台後，這個部門的大臣由副首相韋雅蘭（Angela Rayner）擔任，暫時首相施紀賢（Keir Starmer）另外只向這個部門委任了2個國務大臣（副大臣）。
其中一名國務大臣Jim McMahon 星期二向BBC表示，這個部門將易名「房屋、社區及地區政府部」（Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government），把部門工作重新聚焦，批評前朝使用「升呢」字眼只屬口號，只有承諾卻沒有跟進行動，現在把部門易名，也反映了英國政治重回成熟。

韋雅蘭在X表示，不要噱頭，不要口號，而是為了國家利益而努力管治。
轉用「地方政府」一辭，也代表工黨的地區發展政策重新重視地方政府，加強跟地方政府合作。
改名會逐步進行，不會刻意一次過把用上「地方升級」字眼標誌的文件劃走。
一個主管地區發展的部門可追溯至上一個工黨年代，當時首相貝理雅（Tony Blair）把涉及地方發展的政策撥歸副首相彭仕國（John Prescott），相關公務員隷屬內閣辦公室，但這個架構被批評，於是將這個部門獨立出立，2006年成立「社區及地方政府部」（DCLG）。
這個部門近年多次易名，2018年變成「房屋、社區及地方政府部」（MHCLG），2021年變成「地方升級、房屋及社區部」（DLUHC），現在變回MHCLG。
順帶一提：英國2020年推出BNO簽證政策後，協助居英港人融入社會的政策由MHCLG負責。

* 去年澳洲維多利亞省因成本激升而取消舉辦。鑒於2014年格拉斯哥主辦非常成功，所以許多人懷疑會回到格拉斯哥辦。
* 上週，協運委會從維省3.8億澳幣之違約金抽了幾乎2億給蘇格蘭，希望格拉斯哥能進場救援。由於金援有限，所以規模也會縮減。
* 蘇格蘭政府、英政府蘇格蘭大臣、市政府都抱持積極樂觀態度，蘇格蘭工黨主席（可能會贏得2026大選而當蘇格蘭首相）表示「在這座遭背棄的城市辦這協運，用膝蓋想都知道要抓住這機會。」

Sue Gray has resigned from her position as Keir Starmer’s chief of staff after finding herself at the centre of a political storm since Labour came into power.
Gray will be replaced by Morgan McSweeney, who masterminded Starmer’s succession from Jeremy Corbyn, and with whom she is said to have found herself at odds in government.
While a number of senior Labour figures had downplayed the friction between Gray and McSweeney, both of whom are close to the prime minister, one cabinet minister had foreshadowed Gray’s future weeks ago, telling the Guardian: “One or both of them will have to go. It’s not going to be Morgan.”
Gray would take on a new government role as the prime minister’s envoy for the regions and nations, No 10 announced, as Starmer shook up his entire top-team after facing intense pressure to put an end to the hostile briefings that had at times overshadowed his first 100 days.
