    Knicks Are Off and Almost Out

    Knicks with a personal 8-0 burst to open the fourth, as Miami
    turned a close game into a rout. James scored 17 points in the
    final period and finished with a game-high 32. Dwyane Wade added
    20 points, and Mario Chalmers had 19 — including five 3-pointers,
    one more than the entire Knicks roster.



    The Knicks will try to extend the series Sunday, but the odds are
    staggering. Of the previous 99 teams to trail 3-0, 59 have been
    swept. Thirty others went down in five games.



    The task will be tougher for the Knicks, who are missing two
    starters: Amar’e Stoudemire, who tore up his hand when he punched
    a glass fire-extinguisher cover after Game 2; and Iman Shumpert,
    who tore up his knee in Game 1.

    Stoudemire was on the bench Thursday, with a sling on his arm, his
    left hand heavily wrapped. There is little chance of him returning

    on their own.

    Wednesday — his first full-court activity since undergoing knee
    surgery — then took Thursday as a recovery day. He is expected to
    practice Friday and then will be re-evaluated. “I just want to
    take it day by day,” he said. “Game 4 doesn’t look great. Game
    5, I have no idea.” ... Although Amar’e Stoudemire said he might
    return by Sunday, Mike Woodson was less confident. “He’s not
    able to do a whole lot of anything right now,” he said, adding,
    “Nobody’s come to me and said anything about him playing on
    Sunday.” ... Before Thursday, Steve Novak had started just four
    games in his six-year career, all in the regular season, the last
    in April 2009, when he was with the Los Angeles Clippers.
