China had two J 11 fighter jets go across the centerline in the Taiwan Strait
and it's the first time that such a major incursion has been made by Chinese
fighter jets across that imaginary line in 20 years

and the Chinese are clearly sending a signal to Taiwan that they are not
happy with Taiwan government's policies including strengthening defense ties
with the United States but this is a part of a pattern of Chinese pressure

the United States has long maintained close security ties with Taiwan under

there have already been three sales under the trump administration there's
also under consideration new arms sales so there has been increased attention
particularly as the Chinese military threat to Taiwan has grown and the Trump
administration is taking that quite seriously
在川普任內，美台已完成三次的軍售，由於中國對台灣的軍事威脅日漸升高
因此未來可能談成的軍售也備受矚目，川普政府將認真看待此事

and the last six months the United States has had vessels passed through the
Taiwan Strait every single month once a month this increased activity by the
US and the fact that the US has made it public and called attention to it

I think this is where it connects with the domestic political situation in
China there's a lot more focus on ensuring that they never give up an inch of
land or water or that they cave in to foreign pressure when it comes to
sovereignty issues

in the next six months this is the run-up to the presidential elections in
Taiwan which will take place in January 2020 and in that period there's going
to be I think growing concern in the United States about whether or not
Taiwan can hold a free and fair election that represents the preferences of
the Taiwanese people

there is growing concern about PRC meddling in Taiwan's society and in its
politics there is evidence of disinformation of money being funneled from
mainland China to various groups in Taiwan and there's interference in social
media there's really concern I think as to whether or not this election is
going to be free
最近有越來越人擔憂中共可能意圖影響台灣社會以及政局
有證據顯示假消息攻擊、地下金援給台灣特定團體，以及試圖干涉社群媒體
我的擔憂正是2020這場大選能否自由公正的舉行
