在2007年的4月16號

Virginia Tech發生了一起造成32死的校園槍擊事件

而在當年五月，洋基宣布將捐款100萬美金

並且和Virginia Tech的棒球隊來場表演賽

且在宣布的當天

校長也被邀請去全美轉播的基襪大戰開球



Virginia Tech隊上捕手Anthony Sosnoskie回憶到

當時他接到一堆隊友的電話說

他們要和洋基打一場比賽了

當下他還有點半信半疑

然後自己打開電視才發現這是真的XD



而為了這場和洋基的表演賽

Virginia Tech花了42萬美金擴建校隊球場English Field

想讓更多的人能進場看這場比賽，但容量還是不到6000人

因此這場比賽不對外開放


而是邀請倖存者、罹難家屬、救難人員

以及Virginia Tech學生能買票入場

Virginia Tech一壘手O’Brien回憶到

賽前洋基教頭Joe Girardi走來跟他握手時

跟他說你竟然是紅襪粉XD

因為之前報紙上就有提過O’Brien是個在紐約長大的紅襪粉

但O’Brien也說在那次比賽之後

他對洋基的敵意就不復存在惹

當天Virginia Tech的先發投手是Andrew Wells

預定是只要投一局，但他要想辦法能投完XD

洋基排出的前五棒

Johnny Damon
Derek Jeter
Bobby Abreu
Álex Rodríguez
Jason Giambi

後面還有
Jorge Posada, Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera.

洋基第一局靠BB→E→BB填滿壘包

然後Álex Rodríguez的高飛犧牲打打回第一分

但最後靠著讓Giambi打出雙殺打成功下庄

Andrew Wells表示對上這種打線，還只掉一個非自責分

讓他蠻自豪的XD

最終洋基以11:0獲勝



而每位上壘的洋基打者都會和學生們聊天

像O’Brien說Johnny Damon好像不知道洋基是要當天來回的

還在跟他約晚上要去走走XD

而從第四局開始

Álex Rodríguez還直接常駐在Virginia Tech的休息室XD

還辦有獎徵答XD

只要能回答出A-Rod生涯達成過啥紀錄

就可獲得紀念品——球棒、擊球手套、帽子



賽後Jeter也送了手套給O’Brien

Andrew Wells則從A-Rod那拿到腕帶、Damon那拿到打擊手套

Wells說到他原本是勇士隊的球迷，之後改支持國民

但從這天之後

“Forever a Yankees fan,”
