◥ 關係子句 ◤
印度語裡有許多關係代名詞，引導關係子句，以下一一介紹:
一、जो: who/whoever/what/that/the thing that/that which
जो 具有引導名詞子句的功能，例:
1. Whoever comes here once, always comes back.
→ जो यहाँ एक बार आता है, वह हमेशा लौटता है |
2. The person who flies high, falls down.
→ जो ऊँच्चा उड़ता है, वह ही नीचे गिरता है |
3. The thing that you want, I don't have.
→ जो तुम्हें चाहिए, वह मेरे पास नहीं है |
4. That which shines is not always gold.
→ जो चीज़ चमकता है, वह हमेशा सोना नहीं होती |
जो 也有引導形容詞子句的功能，例:
1. The dish that I ordered is too spicy.
→ जो खाना मैंने मंगाया, वह बहुत तेज़ है |
2. The toys that Father brought are very expensive.
→ जो खिलौने पिताजी लाये हैं, वे बहुत महंगे हैं |
印度語裡，句子裡若要用到關係子句，通常會放在該句子開頭，而關係名詞則會放在關係子句的開頭；此外，這類的句子裡常會用到雙重代名詞，上個例子即有雙重代名詞。
जिस 和 जिन 是 जो 的間接格，जिस 是單數，जिन 是複數，例句:
1. I don't forget anyone I meet once. ("The person I see once / whom I see once, I never forget him.")
→ जिसको मैं एक बार देख लेता हूँ, उसको मैं कभी नहीं भूलता |
2. The girl he bought flowers for (for whom he bought flowers) didin't come.
→ जिस लड़की के लिए उसने फूल ख़रीदे, वह नहीं आई |
3. The table we sat next to (next to which we sat) was very large and crowded.
→ जिस मेज़ के पास हम बैठे, वह बहुत बड़ी और भीड़ भीड़ वाली थी |
4. Anyone who doesn’t have a notebook, raise your hands. (Those who don’t have notebooks / whoever doesn’t have notebooks, raise your hands.)
→ जिनके पास कापियाँ नहीं है, वे हाथ खड़े करें
5. The ones I made the food for didn’t come. (Those for whom I made the food, they didn’t come.)
→ जिनके लिए मैंने खाना बनाया, वे नहीं आये |
二、जब: when / the time that; जब भी: whenever
例句:
1. Whenever you have a headache, you take the medicine.
→ जब भी सरदर्द हो, दवाई लेना |
2. When she saw me, she told me that her name was Gita.
→ जब उसने मुझे देखा, तब उसने मुझे बताया कि उसका नाम गीता है|
